Tween/Teen Therapy - Root Awareness Therapy

Holistic Tween/Teen Therapy

Discovering meaning and purpose

Today’s teenagers have many challenges that include academic stressors and societal pressures during a stage that is crucial for building individual identity.

Teens often feel stressed from school, misunderstood by friends and family, and alone with their struggles. They want to feel accepted by friends and are challenged to know and express their own values. This leads to inner distress and conflict at home.

If you are a teen, you do not have to figure all of this out alone! Young people need guidance, and, with some help, you can learn how to manage everything on your plate without getting stuck and overwhelmed.

You can also learn more about what motivates you, so you can feel confident in your own decisions. Your relationships can feel easier, too.

When a parent needs support…

If you are a parent of a teen needing therapy, you may feel concerned that they are struggling right now. You have tried to help your teen, but deep down you know that they need more support than you can offer.
You are in the right place. I have more than a decade of experience working closely with teens, and I understand the positive impact that an authentic relationship outside of the context of home and school can have on a young person’s life. My teen clients feel safe to open up with me.

As a holistic therapist, I am not just treating symptoms, but I also integrate key components to support healthy development. I help young people plant the seeds for a life guided by meaning and purpose.

Key Components for A Healthy, Whole Young Person:

Self-Regulation Skills and Communication

Highly Sensitive Teens need help learning how to soothe and ground themselves when experiencing big emotions. They often are not able to differentiate their own emotions from their friends and family members.

I can teach your child communication and mindfulness-based skills for self-awareness. Your teen can develop a “wise self” that is able to acknowledge their emotions and communicate from them from a mindful stance.

Meaning and Purpose:

I can help your teen build confidence and a strong sense of self. Together with your teen, we can begin to understand who they really are underneath society and academic expectations.

Often, teens don’t know their true interests, and I guide self-exploration through expressive arts, nature therapy, and imagery. When teens connect with meaning, they begin to feel driven by their own unique purpose.

Inner and Outer Resources

Sensitive Teens need coping skills when they feel overwhelmed. This includes learning and cultivating resources that they can use alone or with a friend or an adult.

Inner resources can include grounding meditation, slow breathing, and the ability to imagine a safe space within.

Examples of outer resources are calling an adult, physical activity, going to a friend’s house, and reading a book. I can help your teen create their own tool box of coping skills that are unique and special to them.
